2) Fairy tales are all about Noble kings
Democracy was born in 1790 with the French Revolution. This was immediately after Industrial Revolution 1.0 in 1760.
Call it People's Governance 1.0 with a "Elected Representative".
"Selfless Leader", if that is even possible?
The Evolution of Governance Models:
In the beginning there was Autocracy- Monarchy, Dictatorship. This form of governance has obvious negatives.
- Even a benevolent dictator will eventually get corrupted.
- Monarch continues as head of state, but Cabinet is elected by people,
OR Government elected with strong majority with almost non-existent opposition - Good for quick results, but can deteriorate rapidly to Autocracy.
- Stable elected governments.
- Driven by Market Forces.
- Production, distribution, and exchange owned or regulated by the community
- Driven by Equitable distribution of Wealth
- We are already seeing the influence of Social Media and Popular Opinion
- Can it be harnessed for "Enhancing Value"? Delivering Governance irrespective of electoral majority?
Many works of Science Fiction have explored altruistic models:
- Isaac Asimov's "Gaia", the universe metamorphosing into a connected super organism which extracts work from, and supplies needs to each constituent.
- Dan Simmons' Godlike "UI", the Ultimate Intelligence which governs all.
- Ian M. Banks' Culture, AIs facilitating governance in a post-scarcity society.
Are we nearing a paradigm shift in governance models enabled by a Digital Transformation?
Starting with Internet, to Mobile telecommunication, to integrated data networks, to super-fast connectivity; Technology is taking giant leaps towards Artificial Intelligence. Along with rapid improvements in production and distribution systems, we are also seeing a major shift in virtual and physical warfare.
Will we see another Major Conflict before the next Level of Governance emerges?
